Bentham Garden Food DaySaturday 16th July 2011... was a great success, despite the morning rain. We were sorry not to be able to hold the morning session in the planned green-and-peaceful surroundings of the Looking Well garden, but the indoor and under-canvas back-up worked well, and we were delighted - and surprised - at the large number of people who braved the weather to come along and enjoy the event. Luckily, the rain stopped by the afternoon, and the sun smiled on the many people who set off, map in hand, to follow the Edible Garden Trail and visit some of the eight participating gardens, whose owners proudly demonstrated all the fruit and veg they were growing, and answered visitors' questions. Many then returned to the Looking Well for a well-earned cream tea - featuring (of course) home-made cakes, and preserves made with fruit from local gardens. About this websiteThe Bentham Local Food website has been compiled and designed by BEST - Bentham Environmentally Sustainable Town, a group of people from in and around Bentham who work to try to make it a greener town. The website was launched, along with a complementary leaflet, in the run-up to Bentham Local Food Week 2010, which included over a dozen events; click here for photos. The project was funded by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's Sustainable Development Fund, which is managed by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
