Tatham Fells Parish Walk 2008 |
Saturday 27th September 2008 Length: 19.3 miles with 2025 feet of climb - Profile For many years, an annual walk has been arranged by John Wilson to raise funds for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tatham Fells. A different route is planned each time. For 2008 - perhaps influenced by memories of the 2007 walk, which took walkers over the wild heights of the Bowland Fells in appalling conditions - the route chosen was more gentle and lowland in character, passing close to five neighbouring churches to the north-west of Tatham Fells: Wray, Tatham, Melling, Tunstall and Low Bentham. And of course the weather was perfect! Twelve walkers set off from The Church of The Good Shepherd, and were augmented by others along the way, the most being 17, between Tatham and Tunstall. Some didn't have time for the whole walk, and nine completed the full route. The route was mostly on public footpaths, linked by a few short stretches on minor roads, and - by kind permission of the landowners - a walk through the grounds of Thurland Castle. Refreshments were provided at frequent intervals by a team of three much-appreciated supporters, who also served tea in Tunstall Village Hall. Click any photo for a larger version |
