Tatham Fells Parish Walk 2009
Tour de Tatham Fells

Saturday 23rd May 2009

Long route 8½ miles | Short route 5 miles

For many years, an annual walk has been arranged to raise funds for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tatham Fells. A different route is planned each time.

In 2009, organiser John Wilson delivered on a longstanding promise to plan a shorter route than usual, with a short option to boot! Not surprisingly, many more walkers (38) set off from the Old School than did in 2008. The weather was dry, but mostly cloudy, and cool.

Walkers followed paths and lanes via Lowgill, Ivah, and Swans to Whitray, where the two routes split. John Wilson led the longer (and rougher) walk over pathless access land, up Whitray Beck and onto Lythe Fell, across the moorland to Burn Moor, down to Croasdale, then back via Craggs. Edward Huddleston led the shorter walk party (11 adults, two children and 3 dogs) on footpaths to Bank End and Craggs. Both routes finished past Brackenbottom, returning to the Old School for much-appreciated tea and cake.
